Red garlic from Sulmona

This year, the Ministry of Agricultural Policy has entrusted "Aglio D'Alessandro" with the safeguarding of the purity of Aglio Rosso di Sulmona. It is the only company in the area with this title. 

"We are very pleased. We have always used certified seeds for our production and now the Minister has entrusted us with the safeguarding of the purity of red garlic from Sulmona. What is more, we are the only local business that owns CREA-certified seeds," explains Vittorio D'Alessandro.

Sowing is currently being carried out on 30-40 hectares in Abruzzo (Pratola Peligna and Sulmona). "In order to improve the quality, we will increase the area to be sown by hand."

The peculiarities of red garlic from Sulmona are well known and easily recognizable: the aroma is unique, just as is the color and type of cultivation. Thanks to the Peligna valley mircoclimate, this garlic is very different from any other type of bulb.

In 2018, the whole production was sold in just a few weeks and the company is already collecting orders for 2019. Its client base has increased over the past few years and retailers have also discovered the product's high-quality.

Rosso di Sulmona is one of the most prestigious and characteristic eco-types in Italy. The garlic is available in nets with three/four/five heads, braids, jute sacks and larger nets.
