Namibia: Monthly fruit imports up 9 percent

Fruit is one of the products regulated by the Namibian Agronomic Board (NAB). According to the NAB, no restrictions placed on the importation of fruits in October 2020 resulted in the import value amounting to N$32 million, rising by 9.3% from N$29 million imported in September 2020.

NAB regulations for importing fruit involve levies subjecting importers to register and to acquire import permits from the board.  The value of fruit imported declined by 7.7% when compared to N$35 million recorded in October 2019. Overall, the country imported N$408 million worth of fruits since October 2019 at a monthly average of N$31 million.

The highest figures of N$41 million was recorded in November 2019 while the lowest figure of N$25 million was registered in May 2020.

The N$32 million import value of fruit recorded in October 2020 comprised 24.4% fresh apples, 12.1% bananas, 11.9% dried fruits, 4.3% strawberries and 3.2% pears.
