Potato Market Update 22nd May

Potato plantings continue all over Ireland

Plantings continue around the country with a 'stop start' approach as heavy rainfall at times impedes progress. Retail demand and home consumption remain buoyant. It will be an extremely late year and old season stocks are coming under increased pressure. Buyers continue to seek out remaining stock to cover the season.

Plantings are now well advanced across most European countries except for Holland, which was hit with heavy rainfall again last week. Physical prices are reported to be stronger again as buyers look for cover for the end of the season. Plantings also continue in parts of the U.K.
