"A man dressed in the traditional costume of the "Saltner" figure dating from the nineteenth century. The Saltner was a guardian of fields and vineyards, which was used for the protection of crops from damage caused by animals or stolen by thieves and hoodlums. His costume consists of shirt, trousers and leather belt embroidered with doublet and short sleeves in black leather, is completed by a large hat adorned with feathers and fox tails. He wears around his neck a chain with boar's teeth and silver medals. He is equipped with horns and halberds to scare away animals, a whip and even a gun as a deterrent to intruders. Since he carries out his service especially at night, he brings with him amulets to protect him from evil spirits."
