Banana import prices into the UK continued to ease across most origins this week, led by declines from Central and South American suppliers. According to the latest Defra data, the average import price for dollar-sourced bananas fell 16% week-on-week to £0.78 per kilogram, compared with £0.93 the previous week.
Among dollar-zone exporters, prices from Guatemala dropped 20% to £0.74 per kilogram, down from £0.92. Nicaragua registered a similar 22% decline to £0.70 per kilogram, compared with £0.90 previously. Costa Rican bananas averaged £0.86 per kilogram, down 9%, while Colombian fruit decreased 12% to £0.84.
EU-origin bananas, which account for a smaller share of the UK market, were reported at £0.78 per kilogram, matching the overall average and representing a 16% decline from the previous week.
The overall UK banana import average now stands at £0.78 per kilogram, down £0.15 from last week. The downward trend reflects ongoing adjustments in global supply conditions, with seasonal shifts in Latin America coinciding with lower demand across key European import markets.
