McCain Foods has expanded its frozen potato range in Canada with the launch of two South Asian-inspired products under its new Flavours of the World portfolio: Masala Fries and Chili Garlic Potato Bites.
The new products are inspired by popular recipes from McCain's Indian operations. Masala Fries are made from straight-cut fries coated in a seasoning blend that includes chili, onion, garlic, and fenugreek. Chili Garlic Potato Bites feature diced potatoes with a crisp coating and a chili-garlic flavour profile. Both products can be prepared in an oven or an air fryer.

According to McCain, the development process involved collaboration between its Canadian and Indian teams to replicate the recipes and flavour profiles of products that are well established in the Indian market. "Through extensive research and development, product sourcing, and taste tests, the McCain Canada team was able to capture the flavours found in our popular South Asian products," said Aditya Krishna, Director of Sales and Marketing, McCain India.
McCain Canada Managing Director Matt Kohler said the company aimed to introduce more international flavours to its product range by drawing on McCain's global production network. "We're extending this connection across cultures to bring more globally inspired flavours to Canadians," he said.
To coincide with the product launch, McCain produced a short film titled The McCain Masala Movie, created in collaboration with South Asian production partners and filmed entirely in Mumbai, India. Directed by Nitin Menon, the production involved a large Bollywood crew, including costume designer Maxima Basu and choreographer Longinus Fernandes.
The two new frozen products mark the beginning of McCain's Flavours of the World line, which aims to bring globally influenced foods to Canadian households. Masala Fries and Chili Garlic Potato Bites are now available in major retail outlets across Canada.
