‘Chuchuk’ combines high yields with a neutral taste

Uzbekistan and South Korea develop new sweet potato variety

Scientific cooperation between Uzbekistan and South Korea has resulted in the creation of a new sweet potato (batata) variety called "Chuchuk". The variety was developed jointly by researchers from Seoul National University and Uzbek specialists, with practical support from the Center for Seed Development, which initiated the project.

The special feature of the new variety is the removal of natural genes responsible for sweetness, producing a high-yield, nutritious crop with a neutral flavor. Adapted to Uzbekistan's climate, "Chuchuk" is currently undergoing agronomic and environmental trials.

The first plantings have been established at the Center's elite seed farm in the Tashkent region. The project aims to prepare "Chuchuk" for large-scale cultivation in the country and offer local farmers innovative agricultural solutions.
