The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF), in partnership with Nutrien Ag Solutions, has launched a new initiative to provide vital drought support to farmers across the state as they continue to grapple with record-breaking dry conditions.
Funded by Nutrien Ag Solutions, the new Victorian Drought Support Program will enable the VFF to employ a dedicated Drought Support Advisor. This role is designed to assist farmers in accessing existing drought support grants, coordinate well-being events, and act as a key liaison between farmers and decision-makers to identify gaps in current drought relief efforts.
VFF President Brett Hosking said the initiative is intended to serve as a central resource hub for farmers in need of assistance. "Farmers in every corner of Victoria are telling us they need a central point of contact for drought support and related challenges. Thanks to Nutrien Ag Solutions, we're able to provide that," Mr Hosking said.
"Farmers can now directly contact the VFF's Drought Support Advisor, Kim Tupper, who will streamline individual drought grant applications, connect them with financial counsellors and mental health services, and offer risk management advice."
"We know the impact of this drought is far-reaching and will linger for years. It's crucial we have someone on the ground actively listening to farmers and relaying their concerns so we can direct support where it's needed most," he added.
David Wood, General Manager – Western Victoria at Nutrien Ag Solutions, echoed the importance of the initiative:
"Our business is built around supporting Australian farmers, and we know how tough it's been this season across Victoria," Mr Wood said. "By partnering with the VFF, we're investing in meaningful, practical support that will help farmers face today's challenges while building resilience for tomorrow."
Feedback collected through the program will also guide future drought support strategies under the VFF's Disaster Relief Fund.
