Greater supply of imported organic kiwi this year

Organic kiwi imports from New Zealand are in full swing for organic SunGold with organic Green right around the corner. For Awe Sum Organics, it is currently shipping organic SunGold Kiwis under the Zespri label from New Zealand while organic Zespri Green Kiwis will begin shipping starting in the next few weeks.

"Organic SunGold had an earlier start this year and we are now seeing more ample supply earlier than in previous years," says Jenna Galise, Sales Manager at Awe Sum Organics. Meanwhile, organic Green Kiwis are also tracking a couple of weeks earlier than last year. However, even with the season's earlier start, it is anticipated that the New Zealand season on organic kiwi will extend into the fall.

Promotions ahead on imported kiwi
How is demand feeling for kiwi imports? "Demand on organic SunGold is great with customers starting promotions in June," says Galise. "With organic Green Kiwis starting up, it will take a few weeks to fill the pipeline but anticipate demand to be strong."

As for pricing on organic kiwi imports, it is slightly higher than previous seasons due to the U.S. 10 percent tariffs on products imported into the U.S. "That is the biggest challenge; to monitor the impact of tariffs on costs and that consumption and demand does not decrease due to those higher costs," says Galise.

Celebrate the company's 40th anniversary
Organic kiwis and more will be discussed at next month's Organic Produce Summit, July 9-10 in Monterey, California. "We look forward to seeing our customers, trading partners, and everyone attending OPS who is interested in Awe Sum Organics, to celebrate our 40th anniversary with us," says David Posner, President, CEO, and Founder of Awe Sum Organics. "Please stop by our booth, #203, to visit and plan with us and learn more about our organic grape, kiwi, and pear programs and our 40-year-long, and still going strong Organic and Sustainability Mission."
