Reflecting on the growth of the organic berry business

Plant City-based, international grower and year-round marketer of organic strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and Pink-A-Boo® pineberries, Wish Farms, is exhibiting at the Organic Produce Summit again July 10-11 in Monterey, California.

Wish Farms began growing organic strawberries at a commercial scale in Florida in 2004.

The company's mission is "To provide the best-tasting berries" and this plays a role in everything it does. The growers it works with must be aligned on growing the best-tasting varieties.

The organic segment has steadily gained market share over the last couple of decades, and Wish Farms began growing organic strawberries at a commercial scale in Florida in 2004. At the time, there was heavy industry skepticism, namely due to the enormous disease and pest pressure crops face in Florida. While there were struggles early on, product continued to get better and growers learned every season. As a year-round grower-shipper, the company now ships organic berries from multiple regions to meet customer demand.

Wish Farms has seen a lot of growth in the last decade, with the addition of pineberries, added acreage, new grower partners, and a new office and warehouse campus. It is still looking to grow in some key regions, while investing in new technology and advancements, but wants to do so in a responsible way. Of utmost importance is maintaining transparent relationships with growers, giving high-quality service to retail partners, and providing great-tasting berries for consumers.
