Over 95% of designated potato acres have been successfully planted province of Manitoba

The latest report on potato planting in Manitoba indicates that over 95% of the designated potato acres have been successfully planted across the province. The extent of planting varies significantly among individual farms, with figures ranging from 40 to 100%. Specifically, the western regions of Manitoba have seen over 95% of their potato fields planted, though some areas remain unplanted due to wet conditions.

In the central potato-growing regions, the planting completion rate varies widely between 40 and 100%, while the southern parts of Manitoba report a 70 to 100% completion rate. Despite the challenges posed by adverse weather conditions, including rain and snow in May, the overall planting process has seen considerable progress. The report further highlights that early-planted fields have begun showing signs of the first emergence, though half of the potato fields are yet to emerge. Additionally, there have been observations of reduced emergence and some instances of seed rot in areas of the fields that remain wet.
