Vegetable supply remains stable in the Philippines after Typhoon Aghon

The Department of Agriculture (DA) has reported a stable supply of vegetables in the aftermath of Typhoon Aghon. Despite the typhoon's impact, DA Assistant Secretary for Operations U-Nichols Manalo confirmed that measures are in place to ensure market stability and consumer protection.

Manalo highlighted the vigilance against those exploiting the situation. Continuous monitoring is conducted daily in regional field offices and major markets, especially in Manila, to oversee price fluctuations and prevent undue price hikes, which are not expected to exceed a PHP5 increase.

Furthermore, the country boasts a "very sufficient" supply of highland vegetables, indicating resilience in agricultural production despite the challenges posed by Typhoon Aghon. The DA is currently assessing the extent of damage in the Calabarzon, Bicol, and Eastern Visayas regions, focusing on standing crops. This assessment will contribute to ongoing efforts to maintain supply chain integrity and price stability in the face of natural calamities.
