In Rwanda, a logistics company named OX Delivers has revolutionized the way goods are transported in rural areas. Founded in 2021, OX Delivers operates a fleet of off-road electric vehicles designed specifically for challenging terrains, offering direct transportation services from producers to destinations. This innovation significantly benefits local farmers, such as Jean-Paul from Tyazo, who previously faced a two-day ordeal to transport chilli peppers to Kigali, nearly 170km away. With OX Delivers, Jean-Paul can now send over 2,000 kg of peppers twice a week directly to the warehouse, a substantial increase from his initial capacity.
The inception of OX Delivers traces back to the Global Vehicle Trust, established in 2013, with the objective of improving mobility in developing countries. The trust commissioned Gordon Murray, a Formula 1 race car designer, to create the OX vehicle. This vehicle, capable of being shipped in flatpack form and assembled on-site, was designed to navigate rough terrains efficiently, making it ideal for rural logistics.
