Mango season is reaching its peak in Hainan

Farmers in Hainan province are currently harvesting mangoes as the season reaches its peak. Chen Tianxi, who leads Nongfa Mango Orchard in Changjiang Li autonomous county, describes this time from late April to June as intensely busy due to the abundance of ripe mangoes. The unique climate of Changjiang allows mango trees to mature slowly, taking over a month to fully ripen, which is slower compared to other regions. This extended growth period, lasting about 150 days, contributes to the mangoes' rich flavor.

The county's mango cultivation spans over 2,600 hectares, focusing on six primary varieties. Lin Ribo from the county's agriculture and rural affairs bureau reports that this year's mango production is expected to reach 23,000 tons, valued at approximately 70 million yuan. Efforts in recent years have aimed at improving mango quality through sustainable practices, including green planting techniques, reduced chemical use, and the incorporation of organic fertilizers. A crucial part of their strategy involves comprehensive disease and pest management, prioritizing biological and physical control methods to maintain crop safety and quality. The county also avoids the use of hormones and ripening agents, allowing mangoes to ripen naturally.

Hainan's annual mango output stands at 900,000 tons, contributing significantly to the province's economy with the entire industry valued at over 16 billion yuan. The province's mangoes, known for their exceptional quality, are exported to 13 countries and regions, including Singapore, Russia, Canada, and Poland.
