Crunchy is a project born from the cooperation of Fellini Patrizio and Rijk Zwaan

A lettuce that makes the difference

After last year's debut, Crunchy lettuce from Fellini Patrizio was welcomed at Macfrut. The lettuce was developed thanks to the research led by Rijk Zwaan and it was presented in customized packets containing two heads. Experts and buyers appreciated its sweetness and crunchiness, and the finger foods served during the event.

The stand Macfrut 2024: driver Michele Pirro also attended.

"The Crunchy lettuce concept fascinated us right from the start. We can stand out and supply something new appreciated by both supermarkets and consumers, as we could see during Macfrut," explains general manager Emile Fellini.

"Fellini is part of the European group of selected partners with whom we want to reach a new generation of consumers who can appreciate the unique characteristics of this product. Thanks to the thickness of the leaves, Crunchy lettuce boasts an exceptional shelf-life and can be eaten in many ways: in salads or hamburgers, used as a 'spoon' for apƩritifs or snacks or even as a healthy alternative to bread. In addition, it maintains its sweetness and crunchiness intact even if paired with warm ingredients," commented Marco Mantovani, Client Manager Chain at Rijk Zwaan Italia.

While Crunchy lettuce fully meets the demand for innovative products by retailers, it also helps increase production efficiency. In fact, in addition to combining the crunchiness of iceberg lettuce with the oblong shape of Roman lettuce and to standing out thanks to its versatility and long shelf-life, the variety is also suitable for mechanized harvesting, meaning growers can save on processing costs and times, making it an excellent choice for all actors part of the chain looking for new high-quality sustainable products that are easy to manage.
