Good news for mango lovers

Extended season for Hapus mangoes in India

Due to late November and early February rains, there has been an increase in flowering and fruit formation for Hapus or Alphonso mangoes, extending the availability of the fruit until mid-June, beyond the usual season that concludes by mid-May. Mukund Joshi, director of the Hapus Amba Utpadak Vikreta Sahakari Sangh in Maharashtra's Konkan coast, reported that the orchards experienced a second flowering, with fruits expected to be market-ready by mid-May, lasting until June 15.

These conditions have been favorable across Maharashtra's chief mango-growing districts, including Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Raigad, and parts of Palghar and Thane, with all three Konkan districts witnessing beneficial rainfall. However, Karnataka's mango orchards have faced moisture stress, potentially shortening their season. Currently, Hapus mangoes are priced at Rs 500-600 per dozen in Pune and other wholesale markets, with expectations for stable prices benefiting farmers throughout the season.
