Semillas Fitó has expanded its Dutch cucumber range featuring exclusive SmartQ genetics with the Nairobi, Helsinki and Abeto varieties, which are enjoying great success among producers and are making it possible to fully cover the cultivation cycle.
Nairobi cucumber
The Nairobi is Semillas Fitó's new Dutch cucumber for short cycles, recommended for transplants from early August to early September and from early January to mid-April. The Nairobi stands out for its resistance to diseases such as powdery mildew, yellowing or yellow veins, and especially for its resistance to CGMMV.
The plant features the exclusive SmartQ genetics. It has a short internode and smaller dark green leaves that grow perpendicularly to the stem, facilitating crop aeration and light penetration and improving crop health. The variety's secondary stem emission is optimal in terms of both timing and shape. The fruit's quality is excellent. It is ribbed, glossy, dark green, and has a small pistillate closure. Also, in the various greenhouses in which it has been planted, the Nairobi has shown to deliver a large production and excellent quality, in line with market demands.
The Helsinki (in the photo on the right) is another remarkable variety. It is the first cucumber variety with resistance to 5 diseases affecting the crop: CGMMV, New Delhi, powdery mildew, yellow veins, and yellowing. This variety is recommended for late autumn transplants, from September 25 to mid-November.
At the plant level, the Helsinki, also featuring SmartQ genetics, stands out for its medium-high vigor, with a great apical tendency and a very balanced regrowth. It has a medium-sized, horizontal leaf that allows for more light and aeration to reach the plant, which is good for its health. The fruit is dark, ribbed, with good pistillar closure and no bottlenecks. In short, it is a fruit of excellent quality from start to finish and with very good yields.
Abeto cucumber
The remaining Dutch cucumber with SmartQ genetics, the Abeto, is recommended by Semillas Fitó for transplants from early April to August 10. It has a very productive plant with short internodes, adapted to maximum heat conditions, and with good plant health until the end of the cycle. It can also resist many diseases, including CGMMV. Lastly, the fruit is straight, dark, and ribbed, and its characteristics remain constant until the end of the cycle.
