BLE report Week 12:

"South African Abate Fetel, Cheeky/Cape Rose, and Packham’s Triumph pears became more relevant"

South African imports dominated the scene: The presence of the dominant Williams Christ and Rosemarie was locally limited, but Abate Fetel, Cheeky/Cape Rose, and Packham's Triumph significantly gained in relevance. The quality rarely left anything to be desired, according to BLE. As supply and demand were mostly balanced, distributors could often confirm their prices. Only Berlin reported volume-induced discounts.

Williams Christ and Red Bartlett from Argentina, the latter expected to gain significantly in importance in the following weeks. For the products from the 2023 harvest, prices were mostly stable: Turkish Santa Maria and Devici, as well as Italian Santa Maria and Abate Fetel, were priced similarly to the previous week. The prices of complementary Dutch and Belgian batches did not change significantly. And for the few German Xenia and Conference, sellers were mostly able to maintain their demands.

Apples
Domestic offers dominated, with Elstar, Jonagold, Boskoop, and Braeburn leading the way. Wellant, Red Jonaprince, and Kanzi followed in terms of importance.

Grapes
Batches from South Africa were delivered more extensively than before and overall dominated the business. Overall, prices remained at the level of the previous week, provided the quality of the batches could convince.

Oranges
One slowly had to come to terms with the fact that the season is nearing its end. Volumes were still plentiful, but storage options had noticeably restricted.

Small citrus fruits
The campaign is coming to an end: Deliveries were limited, as was the demand. There was much more demand for other types of goods.

Lemons
Spanish shipments dominated the scene. The demand could be met without difficulties. Prices mostly remained at the previous level.

Bananas
Supply and demand were generally balanced, so traders did not need to modify their previous prices.

Cauliflower
French and Italian batches prevailed. Demand was generally quite friendly, and occasionally traders could benefit from it and raise their previous prices.

Lettuce
Belgian and Italian batches predominated. The business proceeded in a relatively calm manner. Prices showed a slightly rising trend.

Cucumbers
The Spanish cucumbers that dominated the scene until week 10 lost significantly in importance. They had already disappeared from the assortment in various cases.

Tomatoes
Prices often showed an upward trend. TOVs in particular became more expensive. Price drops were the exception.

Bell peppers
The Dutch and Belgian season picked up speed: shipments expanded noticeably. Occasionally, offers were even available in all three color groups. However, Spanish imports continued to form the basis of the assortment.
