Saxony:

Increased berry yields following drought year, organic production prevails

The berry harvest in Saxony significantly improved in 2023 after a decline the previous year. The 39 enterprises in the state harvested 736 tons of berries, as reported by the Statistical Office on Tuesday. In the drought year of 2022, only 417 tons were harvested - about 70 percent less than in 2021. According to the announcement, the early summer drought also led to yield losses last year, and in some cases, a complete harvest did not occur due to sales difficulties.

Approximately 65 percent of the nearly 362 hectares of cultivation area statewide are located in the Meißen district. The most significant berry type in Saxony was the Aronia berry (394 tons on 153 hectares), followed by currants (121 tons on 131 hectares) and cultivated blueberries (69 tons on 29 hectares).
