Good start for the Sabrosa-Candonga variety:

"If they choose us it's also because we guarantee strawberries ten months a year"

"The first requirement when dealing with supermarkets is to be able guarantee continuous supplies for as long as possible. Thanks to our precise planning and the satisfactory amounts obtained at the start of the fall season, we managed to retain our historic clients and establish new relations with operators all over Italy, who are happy to know they will receive suitable quantities of high-quality foods. This is also why big retail chain buyers choose us," commented Giuseppe Zuccarella from O.P. Zuccarella in Scanzano Jonico (Matera).

"Every day, we ship 4-5 pallets per chain, for a total of 35 pallets of strawberries shipped during this period compared with the 20 of a month ago. Supplies led supermarkets to avoid special promotions with the Spanish produce, as they are now used to receiving Italian strawberries grown in Basilicata already in October. The Inspire variety is growing large 75-80 gram fruits with 11-13° Brix, so much so that, in most cases, we need to place the produce in single layers. Over 70% of our Inspire crops boast these essential aesthetic and organoleptic characteristics, which are much appreciated by buyers. Shelf-life in refrigerated units is also long, which is among the key characteristics of our Matera Premium brand."

The cooperative started harvesting the Sabrosa-Candonga variety around 3 weeks ago. "It continues to be the leading variety in Italy. Orders keep arriving, and prices are satisfactory. This campaign, we have dedicated 8 hectares to it, and we have planned harvests every 7 days, though we set up the crops so as to have suitable volumes of this cultivar 5 days a week."
