South African agri sector shares expectations for State of the Nation Address 2024

Farmer's Weekly recently sought out the expectations of South Africa's agricultural sector for the upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA). Agbiz CEO, Theo Boshoff, expressed the need for commitment to previously outlined reforms and less red tape for businesses. "We just need commitment to these irrespective of what happens in the elections," Boshoff stated.

Nicholas Dicey, Hortgro chairperson, highlighted the critical challenges faced by the fruit industry, particularly logistical issues at the Port of Cape Town. "Fruit farmers are losing huge sums of money because of these problems, which in turn is threatening job creation and rural economies," Dicey said.
