According to a monthly survey, the total number of apples in storage on December 1, 2023, was 173 million bushels, 29 percent more than last December’s total of 134 million bushels and 19 percent more than the five-year average for that date.
Fresh apple holdings this December totaled 124 million bushels, 33 percent more than the inventories reported for last December. Processing holdings totaled 49 million bushels, 19 percent more than last year on December 1.
This report captures more than 95 percent of the national storage capacity.
