Vineyards on over 50,000 acres in the Sangli district in India were damaged due to heavy unseasonal rainfall last week, some of which were in the flowering stage and some almost ready to be harvested.
The district grows grapes on 80,000 acres and growers face potential losses of Rs 1000 crore. The growers are threatening protests if compensation is not given.
This is the third consecutive year that the entire grape crop has been destroyed.
