Manuel Pentz, Co-Managing Director of Pentz GmbH & Co. KG:

Strong sales in the meat industry with fresh-cut vegetables

"The demand for processed products is becoming increasingly recognised. This can be a high-quality, hand-picked or machine-cut mixture," explains Managing Director Manuel Pentz. "We are convinced that this area will also increase in the coming years because our customers lack the personnel and, on closer inspection, it is also advantageous in terms of costs. The companies concerned need to sit down and look at the benefits they get from our products. Ultimately, we use half the resources, such as water and electricity, that the individual companies would need to process the goods themselves."

This year, Pentz GmbH & Co. KG recorded a significant increase in personnel, tonnage produced and turnover compared to previous years. "The driving force behind our success was the digitalisation of our work processes. It ensured faster data processing, for example in the form of calculations or recognising trends. But our transparent way of working was also crucial to our success."

Increasing of digitalisation
In view of the business growth of Pentz GmbH & Co. KG, a new position has been filled to relieve the burden on the management. "Our new employee is responsible for project management and digitalisation. We have also digitalised pretty much our entire office and can therefore work largely paperless. We have also opted for an app that our customers can use to order goods with customised order records. We also worked with an agency to revise our website, which is due to go online at the beginning of November. Next up is the digitalisation of our logistics."

Regional showcase projects
What sets the company apart from larger companies is its cooperation with smaller, regional companies. "Our collaboration with Biohof Dauner ensures that organic goods produced in the region are also sold in the region. Although we only receive a small total volume from Biohof Dauner during the season, this collaboration is the flagship project in terms of regionality and sustainability. Our focus is on supporting the region," emphasises Pentz.

Strong sales in the meat industry
One of the most successful areas of business for the processing company is the production of auxiliary products for the meat industry. "We supply peppers and onions to large meat processing plants. We cut the products into accurate cubes that are perfectly adapted for their robots. During the season, we mainly source produce from Germany, but sometimes also from the Benelux countries. Out of season, the import share is almost 100 per cent with goods from Italy, Spain and Greece. Due to the weather, there were certainly difficulties with the availability of some products this year. However, we were always able to deliver as we source our goods from several suppliers."

75th anniversary
This year, Pentz is celebrating its 75th anniversary. What once began as a small peddling business in the post-war period is now a medium-sized company run by the fourth generation. "We are proud of our tradition and roots. Together with our 70 or so employees, we have made great progress in recent years and are proud to have preserved the values of our origins. We would like to thank everyone who has accompanied us on this journey over generations and look forward to the future." On the new homepage, the Pentz family provides insights into the company's history.
