Latest case of potato wart found connected to previous detection in P.E.I.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has detected a case of potato wart in a field in Prince County. It is connected to previous findings of the soil-born fungus. The latest update in the ongoing investigation is from the period from March 11 to June 23. During that time, the CFIA collected 4,094 samples, analyzed 10,499 samples and found 1 case of potato wart.

Greg Donald, general manager of the P.E.I. Potato Board, said that only 4 out of more than 45,000 samples collected since the start of the investigation have contained the fungus. According to him, the latest finding of potato wart was in the same restricted field on the same farm where previous positive samples were identified, all near one another and related to the 2021 detection.
