Nicofruit confirms the same areas for the next campaign

"We owe a debt of gratitude to our 27 strawberry growers."

With only a few days to go before the strawberry season in the Basilicata region comes to an end, Francesco Nicodemo would like to express appreciation and gratitude to all the producers associated with the Nicofruit Group.

"We owe a debt of gratitude and commendation to our 27 contributing members for adhering to all specifications both in terms of agronomy and organization/marketing. All the suggestions given on plant nutrition and defense, fruit selection and packaging have allowed us to successfully dispatch to the markets fruits of the highest quality, under the Fragola Matera brand. The strawberry growers did a commendable job, despite the anomalous weather pattern recorded throughout the campaign, thus managing to exceed 600 g/plant. At the moment, we still have somewhat less than 30 hectares in production, including those we own and the members' surfaces. We believe we will be done with shipping by Friday, 23 June 2023, in line with previous years."

"Our membership base is made up of small and medium-sized companies, both junior and senior entrepreneurs. We are a big family, one that believes in how vital and no longer deferable aggregation and cooperation are in the agricultural sector."

For the upcoming strawberry season, Nicofruit confirms the same acreage as this year, or about 100 hectares allocated for the Inspire and Sabrosa-Candonga varieties.

The manager further explains that there are many customers who preferred to continue with Basilicata strawberries, despite the gradual discontinuation of the harvest. "We are slowing down, but orders continue to be strong, perhaps due to the scarcity of summer fruit. What characterizes our strawberries are their sweetness and shelf-life. In addition to large supermarket chains, we are supplying general markets in central and northern Italy, such as Genoa, Savona, Turin, Pescara, Trieste, Udine, Brescia, and Rome. On average we send 40 pallets daily, which is only 50 percent of the volumes dispatched only a few weeks ago, and the volumes will physiologically tend to decrease again in the coming days. From December to date, we have exceeded 8 million punnets sold under the Fragola Matera brand. Overall, quotations were 7-8 percent higher than in the past campaign."
