Onion exports from Maharashtra have gone up by 27% during the April-October period of the current financial year (2022-23) when compared to the same period last year. According to data provided by the Agricultural and Process Food Products Export Development Authority onion exports from Maharashtra state increased to 732,000 tons during the April-October period of the current fiscal.
The state had exported 590,000 tons of onions during the same period (April-October) during the previous financial year 2021-22. According to onion traders, there was shortage of onions as the rain had damaged the crop last year, which had led to a drop in onion export. But there had been bumper production of onions this year and the quality of the crop was also good, which led to a rise in onion export.
