Western Australia to see short supply of potatoes and fresh food over Christmas

Floods and the derailment of a cargo train between Perth and Sydney, Australia will likely see a shortage of potatoes and fresh food over Christmas.

The Australian Rail Track Company reported significant damage on the rail track and not sure when it will be running again. Perth could face shortages of any fresh food such as vegetables and fruit.

Potato growers warned earlier this year that shortages will arise due to wet weather, high prices of fertiliser, fuel and transport costs. Supermarkets also reported they have challenges to stock certain products due to the railway closures.
