Moroccan producers reduce vegetable production to adapt to dry season

The water shortage has forced some Moroccan producers in the Souss region to adapt their production, reducing vegetable production to focus on higher value-added products.

Mr. Adil El Maktaa, operations manager at Exploitations Lhawari, said he has reduced his vegetable production this season because of the continuing drought. The company previously produced tomatoes, paprika, peppers, eggplant, and zucchini. But this year, "we have significantly reduced the production of these vegetables" says Adil.

However, the farm has maintained stable volumes of bananas: "We have concentrated our efforts on banana production. Our banana volumes this year remain stable. The quality and sizes are very good". The company produces the variety "grand nain".

The grower offers its production on the market of Ouled Teima, which is then redistributed in the major cities of Casablanca and Kenitra.
