A new fresh produce export line is launched in Beni Mellal, Morocco

Beni Mellal Citrus, a Moroccan exporter based in the region of the same name, has announced its plans to double shipping volumes this season. The company exports mainly Clementine, Nour, Nadorcott, Navel, Navel Late, and Maroc Late varieties, in addition to other products such as watermelons, grenadine, and onions.

To this end, the company has unveiled a new packaging facility with a capacity of 50,000 tons per year, as announced by Ms. Sophia Sebbata, commercial director of the company.

This investment will not only strengthen the citrus operations of the company but will also allow it to incorporate a line for the marketing of local fresh produce from the region, Ms. Sebbata explains. "Our main historical activity is founded on the trading of citrus fruits. With the new packaging station, we will diversify our range of products and local references. We expect to double our export volume this year, from 15,000 to 30,000 tons."

According to Ms. Sebbata, the company, through this investment, consolidates the advantages it has already acquired through its experience: "The Beni Mellal region is in an agricultural region of excellence, yet it has limited packaging stations. We have invested in advanced equipment, which will further enhance our strong expertise and control of the entire value chain."

The packing station supports the company's ambitions in terms of export standards of the targeted markets, in Europe and Asia, adds Ms. Sebbata: "This new facility complies with quality standards such as BRC and IFS, and social standards such as SMETA certification, and allows us a good conservation of products without breaking the cold chain."

Ms. Sebbata concludes: "We are backing this development by intensifying our presence at international trade fairs. We will be present at Fruit Logistica and Asia Fruit Logistica in 2023."
