Indian farmers in Maharashtra have turned to technology to increase production as well as store produce for longer. They are using both solar powered cold storage as well as apps on cellphones to control storage conditions.
In the past tomato, table grapes and mango producers really struggled and had to throw away large amounts of produce away due to a lack of technology and facilities. Now, they can reduce waste, store and sell produce later, increasing their income in the process.
Farmers use technology to increase production by managing irrigation through smart sensors. Others use drones to monitor crops, pests and disease loads and to study the health of their crops, for spraying etc.
All this technology is being developed in India at affordable rates for farmers, many of whom are small scale producers.
