Climate change causes struggles for Gaza date farmers

Date farmers in Gaza's Deir El-Balah have seen production fall due to unusually cold and wet spring weather caused by climate change.

They now face hotter summers, wetter springs during the crucial pollination period, with production expected to go down from 16 000 tons to only 10 000. This is not enough to meet local demand let alone to export. Producers say climate change makes it difficult for them to grow consistent crops.
