L'uva di Emilia (Italy)

Italian grapes showcasing and promoted with grower's face on packaging

Emilia Blasi has a great entrepreneurial story to share. After living and working in Rome for 16 years, she decided to return to her native land, the village of Grottaglie in the southern Italian province of Taranto, to run the family business. But with a touch of innovation and modernity.

"Our flagship variety is the Regginone grape. This is a variety that gets excellent feedback from the markets even in today's difficult times. The grape is grown using natural methods and with respect for the environment, following the principles of organic and regenerative cultivation. Regginone is an ancient variety that can be harvested from early September to 20 October. The grape is yellow/gold in color and the clusters are quite large. The Brix value reaches at least 20."

Cartons of grapes from the 'L'uva di Emilia' brand

"I personally check each carton before it leaves for destination. The idea of making a carton with my face and all the information about the type of grape, growing technique and origin turned out to be brilliant. The goal was to create a bond based on trust and professionalism. We want to convey what the 'grapes of Emilia' stand for, namely healthy, natural and clean fruit, especially thanks to a cultivation model that leaves the weeds intact to protect the plots from erosion, saves water, uses organic compost and bio-fertilizers and reduces carbon dioxide in the atmosphere."

"It may seem odd, but we are not seeing a decline in orders in these times of economic crisis. We are having a very good year, both in terms of cultivation and sales. The grapes have an extraordinary taste, and the shelf-life is great. We supply the Coop supermarket chain in the provinces of Taranto and Lecce, as well as several wholesale markets in northern Italy."

Azienda Agricola Blasi is the only company in Italy that grows grapes organically and regeneratively.
