Last August, Brazilian mango shipments, despite being even lower in the partial year, improved. In that month, the volume of fruit destined for foreign countries grew 9% compared to the month of July, reaching just over 13,000 tons. However, the performance is down 39.6% YoY.
The increase in shipments compared to July is due to the beginning of shipments to the US, which despite having started at a slow pace, has already allowed better performance compared to July. The quality of mangoes from the São Francisco Valley (PE/BA) also improved, benefiting shipments.
However, from January to August this year, shipments totaled just 91,300 tons, 19% lower than in the same period in 2021, when exports reached just over 112,400 tons. The lower-than-expected results are due to weather problems in the first half of the year and logistical difficulties in shipments, such as restricted availability of containers and ships. In addition, difficulties in transferring production costs to sales prices limit more positive negotiations for exporters.
