"We want to provide customized preservation solutions for fruit container carriers"

The strain on the global transportation capacity has brought great challenges to the fruit industry. In an environment where sea transportation takes a long time and is often uncertain, the quality of fruit in logistics directly affects the profitability of merchants. Against this background, the demand for the preservation of fruits in storage and transportation increased sharply, and the demand for 1-MCP increased as well.

Debby, and the head of SPM Biosciences (Beijing) Ltd., a post-harvest preservation service provider for the fruits and vegetable industry, introduced the company's research and development of 1-MCP tablets for fruit preservation in containers.

"1-MCP is an efficient post-harvest preservation product which can effectively extend the storage time of vegetable and fruit products, effectively avoid water loss, and reduce hardness and poor taste caused by transportation delays."

Compared to containers that do not use 1-MCP tablets, the shelf life of fruit and vegetable products in containers with tablets can be extended by 50%-200%. "Tablets are suitable for a variety of ethylene-sensitive crops, such as apples, pears, persimmons, stone fruits, avocados, grapes, etc."

When it comes to the advantages of the product, Debby said, "Our 1-MCP tablets are specifically designed for the preservation of fruits and vegetables transported in containers or trucks, whether over long distances or short distances. The product is very simple to use, and the merchant only needs to place the tablet in a confined space for transportation. In addition, we can also provide customers with customized preservation solutions according to the shipping schedule and fruit varieties. ”

When it comes to the impact of the pandemic and the tight global transportation capacity on product sales, Debby said: "The COVID-19 pandemic has brought great challenges to the fruit export industry. The availability of ships is tight, the freight rates increased greatly, and the transportation time is also extended. The quality of fruit in warehouses and logistics directly affects the profitability of merchants. In the face of this situation, the demand for the preservation of fruits in storage and transportation increased sharply, and the demand for 1-MCP increased as well. Our sales also increased compared to the same period in previous years.”

SPM has nearly a decade of experience in the Chinese market, and it has its own R&D, analysis, and service teams. The company has achieved sales qualifications in countries such as Argentina and Dominica. "In addition to the existing products, we hope to cooperate with more vegetable wholesalers, exporters, packers, and agents to reduce the loss of fruits and vegetables in the supply chain. SPM can also send free samples to merchants for testing. ”
