Sri Lankan president issues regulations temporarily suspending importation of 305 products

In his capacity as Finance Minister, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has issued regulations temporarily suspending the importation of 305 products under the Imports and Export Control Act. Sri Lanka Customs has granted approval to release already dispatched goods that fall under the suspension announced under the Imports and Export Control Act effective from yesterday, if it arrives on or before the 14th of September at ports or airports.

This produce falls under the temporary importation ban:

  • Coconuts, Brazil nuts and cashew nuts, fresh or dried, whether or not shelled or peeled, and Oats.
  • Fruit, nuts and other edible parts of plants, otherwise prepared or preserved, whether or not containing added sugar or other sweetening matter or spirit, not elsewhere specified or included. Nuts, ground-nuts, and other seeds, whether or not mixed together, including mixtures and liquid coconut milk.
