Chile exported 1.608 million tons of fresh fruits worth 3.657 billion FOB dollars between January and May 2022, i.e. 10% more volume and 9.6% more value than in the same period of the previous year, according to the last ODEPA report published in June 2022.
The main fresh fruit exported in that period was cherry, whose shipments amounted to 285,000 tons, equivalent to 1.571 billion FOB dollars, i.e. 7.2% more volume and 32.2% more value than in the same period of the previous year. Most of the fruit was sent to China (90% of Chilean cherry exports were shipped to China).
Table grapes followed in importance with 587,600 tons shipped for 890.8 million FOB dollars, i.e. 15.4% more volume and a slight 0.1% decrease in value over the same period of the previous year. The US was the main buyer in this period accounting for 48% of the total value of Chilean table grape exports, followed by China with 14.3%.
Blueberry exports ranked third with 90,000 tons exported for 414.5 million FOB dollars, registering a 6% year-on-year decrease in volume and a 14.4% fall in value. Shipments were mostly directed to the US (47.6%) and the Netherlands (22%).
These three species, together with plum, the fourth most exported fruit in the period, accounted for 84.9% of the total value of fresh fruit exported in the analyzed period.
