Biotalys, an AgTech company addressing food protection challenges to enable a more sustainable and safer food supply, has appointed Simon Moroney as chairman of the board following the company’s Annual General Meeting at the end of last week.
Moroney brings more than 30 years of industry leadership and research experience to the the board. From 1992 to 2019, he was co-founder and CEO of MorphoSys, a leading biotechnology company focused on the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases. At MorphoSys, he played a central role in establishing the company as a driving force in the field of therapeutic antibodies. He currently sits on the board of Novartis as a non-executive director. Moroney has also been awarded with the German Cross of the Order of Merit for his work in the biotechnology industry.

Moroney holds a D. Phil in Chemistry from the University of Oxford and has held positions in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Cambridge, as assistant professor in the Chemistry Department, University of British Columbia and as associate and lecturer in the Chemistry Department of the ETH Zurich.
Yesterday’s announcement follows the recent submissions to the EU and US regulatory authorities of the registration dossier for the company’s first protein-based biocontrol product, Evoca™ *, Biotalys’ first biofungicide which aims to provide fruit and vegetable growers with a novel mode of action to control key pathogens in selected crops.
