The level of automation in the agricultural industry continues to rise every year. A growing number of packaging factories and farms are investing in automated packaging and weighing installations. Annie, a spokesperson for the specialized mesh bag supplier Shandong Fullway Import and Export Co., Ltd, recently talked about changes in overseas market demand and how the company changed in response to new trends.
Mesh bag design and manufacturing is not an unchanging industry. There is a wide range from handmade hemp bags to machine-made synthetic mesh bags. Then there are different demands for the labels and QR-codes. Now that a growing number of companies automate their packaging process, the mesh bags have to meet very specific requirements to be compatible with the machinery in different factories.
"For example, the perforation of bags has always been a difficult technological issue in the industry. We have installed a complete processing line on the factory floor and added specialized equipment for the perforation of mesh bags to meet the diverse requirements of our customers. After years of experience, and many different experiments, our perforation technique has now reached a mature stage. We are able to satisfy diverse demands from a wide variety of customers.
"Another problem in the industry is the source material for mesh bags. The bags used to be made from plastic that was still and carried a strong, irritating smell. The source material can negatively affect the product quality of the content carried in these mesh bags. We have been able, after many trials and errors, to soften the plastic and remove the irritating odor," said Annie.
Spain is a large exporter of agricultural products. Spain is also one of the first overseas markets where Fullway gained a foothold. "The harvest of onions and potatoes takes place every year between June and August in the northern hemisphere. That is the peak period of the export season for Fullway. The company exports around 10 shipping containers per month. We started to cooperate with a number of packaging companies to better understand market developments and anticipate consumer needs. This cooperation allows for a closer integration of packaging material and packaging methods, and better fits the product to the needs of our clients."

There are knitted mesh bags and plain weave mesh bags. Russia and Ukraine prefer knitted mesh bags, while the Netherlands and Germany give preference to traditional plain weave mesh bags. Different customers also diverge in their preferences for labels, colors, sizes, and weight. We aim to provide a custom-made solution that satisfies the need of all our customers."
