Prices for high quality apples from Poland expected to increase

“We might start our very own brand of apples”

After a successful trial shipment of Polish apples to Taiwan, there is hope future shipments will be sent as well. However, according to one Polish exporter the main focus remains on the European market, as the lack of apples in this region has lead to high demand and will lead to high prices for the best quality apples.

Things have been going well for Polish apple exporter Galster. According to Mateusz Wajnert, head of sales for the company, Galster policies have put the company in a good position with their customers: “We’ve continued our sales policy. We’re still looking for good quality apples to satisfy our customers. We are trying to work with the same growers when we can, as it gives us a sense of security about the produce’s quality and the continuity of supply. Our main responsibility is to meet the expectations of our customers about quality, varieties and good commercial care and I think we’ve done very well in this department. To summarize, we’re very satisfied with the current situation at Galster. While our focus is on the export to our existing customers we always look for new opportunities and challenges.”

Although the focus was on the trial shipment to Taiwan two months ago, the focus is now back on to the European market. Wajnert expects the bulk of their remaining apples to be exported to these European markets. “Our first trial shipment to Taiwan, which contained a few boxes of apples was received positively. We try to participate in promotional activities in Taiwan of Polish apples. We haven’t done any extra shipments since that trial shipment so far. However, we are still working with a lot of European countries, as well as doing some long-transit shipments. In my view it’ll be the European market that we sell the largest volumes of apples to for the remainder of the season. This is due to less crops in most of Europe as well as getting better and better solid relationships with our current customers.”

Wajnert states that if high quality apples can be acquired in the upcoming weeks, prices for the best quality will start increasing. “For the upcoming months we expect that the market will remain at a good level, but I would like to stress that good quality is needed. If we manage to acquire enough high quality apples I think we can count on rising prices for the best apples in the next months. Of course, our team will still be looking for new challenges, maybe one of them would be to start with our very own brand of apples.” He concludes.
