The perfect Valentine's Day gift?

New Zealand: TradeMe auctions off heart-shaped potato

As we are approaching Valentine's Day, why not surprise your loved one with a heart-shaped potato? A seller from Red Beach on Auckland's North Shore auctioned one on TradeMe, calling it ‘Nature's Love Spud’.

“A unique heart-shaped potato fresh from the garden ... maybe to be preserved indefinitely or be shared in a creative meal with someone special on Valentine Day,” the listing says. The potato measures 7.5cm by 5.5cm and has already been viewed 7,300 times.

Bidding began at $100 for the potato, with one person matching that early on Tuesday morning.

Stuff.co.nz reports that it's not the first time a potato has been auctioned on TradeMe. In April 2019, an oddly shaped kūmara sold for $245, with all proceeds going to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
