Burgert van Dyk & Wian Mouton – Fall Creek South Africa

First blueberry plants released from Fall Creek South Africa nursery

Fall Creek South Africa has reached an exciting milestone at their new blueberry nursery in Paarl, the Western Cape, with the release of the first plants of AtlasBlue® ‘FCM12-045’, BiancaBlue® ‘FCM12-087’ and JupiterBlue® ‘FCM12-131’.

“We’re extremely excited to see preview plants of these varieties shipped to more than 20 locations in South Africa, including all the major blueberry producing regions. By December 2021, the growers of these preview plants will have a better understanding of the potential and adaptability of the varieties on their sites, under their management, which in turn will assist them in making important decisions,” says Wian Mouton, commercial manager at Fall Creek South Africa.

Fall Creek South Africa is the fifth international, wholly owned subsidiary of Fall Creek Global, providing Southern African growers with plants of the same quality for which Fall Creek has over the years earned international recognition.

In South Africa Fall Creek will focus on introducing more varieties, delivering plants and supporting growers both locally as well as in neighbouring countries in Southern Africa, where big potential exists for the production of high-quality export blueberries.

The establishment of the nursery has been a tremendous but exciting challenge, says Fall Creek regional director, Burgert van Dyk, “We are extremely proud of our achievements and the way we overcame each obstacle with quick and innovative solutions.”

Burgert notes that Fall Creek is confident that their plants will thrive in the fields of their customers and that they will benefit from the quality crop of blueberries produced.

“Fall Creek aims to be the best - from genetic selection, cultivation and nurturing of these plants, to finding the best way of packaging and shipping them to the customer.”
