In the former Trofi Pack building in De Lier, ULMA Packaging was already the main supplier of the packaging machines and in the new distribution center in Den Hoorn, various packaging machines from the machine supplier from Leerdam were again chosen for packaging the exotics supply. This included flow packers, tray sealers and vertical packers.

"They deliver good stuff, well made and with good service. They say what they do and do what they say," explains operational manager Marcel Broekhart of Trofi Pack. A clear answer, which, according to sales manager Alex Hofstee of ULMA, is an accurate description of Trofi Pack. "Right is right and wrong is wrong. You know where you stand right away. We liked the previous machines, so we were able to make a proposal for the new machines right away."
Since the 16,000 m2 building became operational at the beginning of April, avocados, mangoes, limes, physalis, passion fruit, ginger and turmeric have already been transferred to ULMA's packaging machines. "We were ready to go very quickly and the machines did their job well right away," says Marcel Broekhart. "Service technician Bart - a great guy - was here a lot during the move, but that isn't needed anymore. The machines are running well and we expect to place more orders soon."
Currently, about 80 flowpack packages per minute are coming off a line, but that speed also depends on the quality of the product and, according to Alex Hofstee, can safely exceed 100 packages per minute. "The exotics category is booming of course, and Trofi Pack has everything here to grow with that category in the coming years. We have also offered a suitable solution in the trend towards top seal packaging, for example for grapes."
A novelty for these machines is that they can be read remotely. Production speeds, faults, required labels and manuals can all be viewed remotely. In addition, there are videos to see how, for example, the roles can be changed. With the introduction of MyUlma next year, we are going one step further and the system will be able to directly indicate which new parts are needed and they can be ordered directly via this system. "
Is all this plastic packaging suitable for modern times? According to Alex Hofstee, the current Corona pandemic has shown that it does. "People want a hygienic product in the supermarket and want to see the product they buy. Plastic is also very easy to recycle, if you handle it properly. However, a plastic reduction is possible with thinner films. I also don't believe that plastic packaging will every disappear completely. It prevents waste and the prevention of food waste is an important trend at the moment. In addition, our machines are of course also extremely suitable for processing cardboard trays and foil replacement paper. "
