AM FRESH launches its new sustainability strategy

AM FRESH Group is proud to be launching its new sustainability strategy. As a vertically integrated global company of FRESH foods, this company recognises the importance of ensuring that it operates sustainably to protect both increasingly scarce natural resources and the communities in which it operates.

"The sustainability strategy has been developed by our dedicated team of Environmental and Human Rights experts to address the key impact and opportunity areas for AM FRESH worldwide. The strategy is built on three core pillars: Reduce environmental impact, Respect and empower people and enhance health and wellbeing", says Patricia Sagarminaga, Marketing and Communications Manager of AM FRESH Group.

"For many years, AM FRESH has dedicated its efforts to finding sustainable ways to produce food more efficiently by reducing inputs, cutting back on waste and conserving water. Across our own operations and supply chains, we are committed to upholding and advancing human rights. The new strategy is the next step on the company’s sustainability journey and formalises its commitments", points out Patricia Sagarminaga.

Alessa Rigal, Group Head of Human Rights and Ethics says “Many believe that an organisation can either be commercially successful or a benefactor for society; those who are focused on becoming leaders understand that these two things are not mutually exclusive. A human rights driven approach to business is the direction of travel and we want to keep taking proactive steps as we embed the protection of human rights across all that we do, focusing initially on our own operations and ways of working.”

As part of its robust sustainability strategy, AM FRESH Group is announcing new and ambitious targets, including:

· Sustainable sourcing: aim to source 100% of raw materials sustainably by 2030

· Food Waste: halve food waste across its entire group operations by 2030

· Packaging: 100% of its plastic packaging will be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025

· Climate change: strive to improve efficiencies, move to 100% renewable energy across global business sites where possible and become carbon neutral by 2030

· Human Rights: mitigate, address and prevent all forms of forced labour in its own operations and supply chains by 2025

“To demonstrate our performance against the strategy and targets, we will be publishing annual sustainability reports to share our progress. With increased interest from customers, consumers, employees and broader stakeholders, AM FRESH Group is committed to going beyond compliance and communicating our sustainability progress transparently” says Jessica Channings, Group Sustainability Performance and Reporting Manager.

Naomi Pendleton, Group Sustainability Director, who has been working at AM FRESH Group for over 14 years leading technical and sustainability programmes, is a passionate advocate for harnessing the collective sustainability efforts and visions across the group.

“Sustainability is a central part of our ongoing group strategy and wholeheartedly supported by our AM FRESH board. In these uncertain times, meeting our environmental, social and economic responsibilities head on is what will ensure our continued growth and longevity within this highly competitive market-place.”
