10 years after the blueberry crop was introduced in Peru, the country has become the world's largest exporter of this fruit.
“Blueberry entered the country because entrepreneurs were looking for better business opportunities. Currently, Peru has 12,000 hectares established,” stated the general manager of Terra Business, Federico Beltran Molina.
Beltran highlighted that blueberry was the crop that generated the most employment in Peruvian agribusiness. In the coming months, 100,000 people will be harvesting blueberries in all the producing regions of the country. The campaign begins in August and ends in March.
Federico Beltran also stated that blueberry was the main crop in Peru's agro-export basket. This year, the country is projected to produce 164,000 tons of blueberries worth more than $ 1 billion.
