A USDA report has been released. It's about the developments in the 2019/2020 sales season's global pear production. It shows that Indonesia could import 230,000 tons of pears. That would place that country above Russia. Russia's expected to import 30% fewer pears, so 190,000 tons.
When it comes to exports, the USDA says the EU and Argentina trail China. They each exported 295,000 tons. China had a dip in the 2018/2019 season. That was due to bad weather. It'll now increase its production to 17 million tons. According to the USDA, Chinese pear exports could increase by about 60% to 580,000 tons.
In the EU, pear production should reach 2,2 million tons. That's 400,000 tons less due to weather damage. A drop's expected for the same reason in the US and Argentina. These countries will, respectively, have 70,000 and 50,000 tons fewer pears. The USDA, however, expects global pear production to reach a total of 23 million tons. That's 2,5 million tons more than the previous season.
