Elena Rogojnikova of Hagé International:

"Increasing numbers of production areas but avocado continues to grow in popularity"

The European market for avocados is currently well supplied, according to Elena Rogojnikova of Hagé International. "Sufficient supply from Peru, South Africa and Kenya ensures that customers of European supermarkets can enjoy this delicious and healthy product without interruption."

"The avocado continues to grow in popularity. The health benefits of avocados are enormous, which means that more and more people are becoming avocado lovers. In the month of June, avocados are given extra attention by the World Avocado Organisation. June has been globally proclaimed Avocado Month, with promos at various supermarket chains worldwide. For example, when purchasing packaged avocado at Jumbo supermarkets, consumers can download a WAO cookbook specially translated into Dutch," says Elena.

"Due to the increasing popularity, there are also more and more production areas. Kenya, for example, continues to increase its market share, but a country such as Tanzania is also increasingly gaining traction as a potential avocado exporting country. More and more avocado exporting countries are also being added. Peruvian, Chilean and also African exporters are increasingly entering the Chinese market. There is a lot of potential in China, first of all thanks to their enormous population, but also because avocado is still virtually unknown."

The supply of greenskins from South Africa is also good this year. The quality of this variety - particularly popular in Eastern Europe, Baltic countries, Italy and Greece - is excellent this year and the yield is good," concludes Elena.
