New solution turns cartons into ripening chambers

As the competition in the produce industry increasingly intensifies, it is important to ensure the freshness of fruit during transportation and the ripeness management after it reaches the destination. To address this issue, the Shandong Yingyangyuan Food Technology Co., Ltd. have introduced their ethylene slow-release pack, which can be used for bananas, mangos, avocados, papayas, passion fruit, tomatoes, and other produce.

“Usually, these products need to be ripened in a ripening chamber after being picked and transported to the destination before they can be marketed. However, due to market competition and investment limitations, fruit wholesalers from many regions and countries don’t have access to ripening chambers. In response to this problem, Shandong Yingyangyuan Food Technology Co., Ltd. developed the ethylene slow-release pack which allows cartons of fruit to be ripened in a short time. This solution cuts the investment for ripening chambers, and the volume of fruit can be adjusted according to market demand,” manager Wang said.

"During the COVID-19 outbreak, the uncertainty of produce sales  increased due to the shrinking market. If you continue to use ripening chambers to ripen large volumes in one go, it may lead to oversupply and waste. The ethylene slow-release pack solves this problem, as it allows customers to adjust the volume of fruit that needs to be ripened at any given time according to market demand,” the manager said.

“To use this product is very simple. The only requirement is appropriate temperatures and humidity in the warehouse. Fruit traders only need to put a small ethylene slow-release pack in the banana carton with plastic lining. One pack can be used for 13-15 kilos of bananas, which can be marketed after 3-4 days. The ethylene slow-release pack is simple to use, leaves no residues, and is green."

Shandong Yingyangyuan Food Technology Co., Ltd. is committed to providing ripening solutions for produce suppliers worldwide. "The ethylene slow-release pack is a product developed by our company. The product meets the national GB 9830-88 standard and has been patented,” the Manager shared.
