Erik-Jan Thur, Marni Fruit:

"Every country is currently fighting for their place on the mandarin market"

The market for Spanish mandarins has been at a good level for a long time, but at the moment it is urgent at the front. "Right now there is more than enough trade for sale," notes Marni Fruit's Erik-Jan Thur. "Egypt is sending Murcott, the Moroccan Nadorcott season has started and from Turkey the first Minneolas are already arriving. That makes it all more difficult at the moment, because everyone is fighting for their place."

Nevertheless, the Spanish suppliers will not be dissatisfied with the season. Good money was paid for the slightly lesser qualities. We have sold a lot of leaf mandarins and that market has been good for a long time. We are currently in the Clemen Late / Ortanique varieties that are less easy to peel. These are appreciated a little less and then you see the sales fall immediately. Now we are switching to the Fortuna variety, which is easier to peel. "

"Prices for mandarins vary, depending on quality, between 9 and 11 euros. For citrus consumption, the weather conditions are not bad at all, only there are currently just a lot of origins on the market. The orange market has also gone well for Spain. The Valencia's from Egypt are largely destined for the press, so Spanish trade has remained quite popular," Erik-Jan concludes. This week Marni Fruit has fresh arrivals from both Egyptian Murcott mandarins and oranges.
