CartoPaper packaging is suitable for horizontal flowpack machines and vertical bag sealing machines

"The environmental notions of the modern buyer are served by this concept"

With the latest packaging solution from Cartomat, the Willich-based specialist printing company is once again setting an example of sustainability. The new cartoPaper monopackaging made of 100% paper -straight from the roll- is suitable for a variety of fresh products such as potatoes, onions and carrots, but also nuts and apples. The packaging innovation will be presented at the Fruit Logistica in Berlin, where the family-owned company is exhibiting for the second time in a row.

The latest product of the cartoPaper product line can be used in all horizontal flowpack machines and vertical form fill and seal machines. "A partially applied, water-based sealing medium ensures a reliable sealing of the stable paper even at high cycle rates", developer of cartoPaper Hans Grips added.

The cartomat (portfolio right side) products replace a large amount of PE packaging with cartoPaper-bags (horizontal and vertical).

The FSC paper is manufactured from 100 percent renewable raw materials and is therefore completely recyclable and compostable. The paper optimally absorbs any moisture in the products. Nevertheless, the paper guarantees the highest possible tear resistance. The packaging can now optionally be equipped with a cellulose net, so that the fresh product to be marketed is also visible at the POS. Just like the paper, this net is completely recyclable.

Horizontal packaging with cardboard trays enables recyclable mono packaging for all flowpack machines. The solution is available in individual sizes for 0.5 to 2.5 kg packages. The size and arrangement of the perforation or window can also be individually selected.

Light protection and ventilation
An additional advantage of the new type of paper packaging is that the products in the packaging are protected from light and therefore no discoloration occurs. At the same time, the solution guarantees good ventilation through the hole punches, which prevents the products from drying out and guarantees a long shelf life of the products.

The white paper enables CI-compliant printing with water-based ink. The solution is also an excellent advertising medium at the POS due to the effective printability of the sustainable paper. Not only the advertising print, but also the packaging concept itself is in keeping with the spirit of the times. "The environmental thought of the modern buyer is served accordingly with this concept", Grips said.

International expansion course
The cartoPaper sustainable packaging concept is gradually gaining importance in the international environment. Among others, the international representatives Ferme de la Motte (France) and Van der Windt are working together. "We have a lot of contact with the machine manufacturers, e.g. GKS and Ilapak - there is also great interest there in equipping the conventional Carry-Fresh machines for cartoPaper", Grips concludes.
